Mazsport was created as a place to develop performance products and performance packages for the RX7. Scott and Christy Glassburn, owners of Mazsport, have developed a reputation among rotary enthusiasts that is unlike any other. They began by opening a small shop in Tampa for primarily high performance and racing work. The work never ended which encouraged Scott to open his first official shop in Pinellas County at the Ulmerton Road (Largo, FL) location. Many of us remember this location by the large MAZSPORT sign on the face of the building. You could drive by any day of the week and see a parking lot full of activity with beautiful RX-7s and other Mazda vehicles waiting for service or performance modifications.
Scott realized quickly that he was outgrowing that location due to the increasing interest. The workload grew and the shop began to draw customers from all over the country. He and wife Christy started offering new and used parts online via a Mazsport Ebay Store and relocated the shop further into Pinellas County to a larger 8,000 sq. ft. facility. There he hired more technicians, continued to offer service, repair, and performance work and slowly started to develop products for the RX-7s.
This was around the time that
the RX-8s had entered the market and the Renesis rotary engine
called for the MAZSPORT notorious finesse. MAZSPORT embraced
this new vehicle straight away by securing an RX-8. It was
driven over 275 miles and disassembled in stages to review
the strengths and weaknesses compared to other rotary models
Mazda had developed and soon after, the Interceptor-X (Engine
Management System) development began. Once the first turbo
system for the RX-8 was installed, it quickly became apparent
that MAZSPORT was on the right track. The intricate and detailed
computer system that Mazda had introduced was less than friendly
to the traditional piggyback controller approach that many
vendors had used over the years. Scott’s background in Microtech
Engine Management Systems put him to the forefront of EMS
technology. This aided him in developing products to improve
the drivability, power and reliability of the RX-8. This development
pushed MAZSPORT to a new mission: to Improve the Mazda RX-8
with a continued commitment to increase performance.
MAZSPORT has now expanded their sales, shipping & receiving, customer service graphic & web design marketing research, and a focus on the development of RX-8 performance products.
